In 2024, the company AKRON began installing charging stations for electric vehicles in different areas of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Zone.
AKRON EV is AKRON’s business unit that promotes electromobility through the installation and operation of charging stations. There are currently 22 charging centers in Guadalajara, and more than 35 are expected to be operating by the end of 2025.
The first charging points were installed at the Andares shopping center, while the Atlas Clubs are among the first to have AKRON EV charging stations. In this regard, Fernando Espinoza García, director of Clubes Atlas, explains that the first charging hoses were installed two months ago and have already seen significant demand.
Faster and Easier
María José Palomar, AKRON’s electromobility manager, explains that the goal is to offer charging station infrastructure for electric vehicles in a fast and agile manner through a 100% digital application.
She adds that they are also “looking for commercial partners interested in installing a charging center, whether in shopping centers, clubs, developments, or parking lots.”
Atlas Clubs Among the First
Charging stations are currently operating at Club Atlas Colomos, Club Atlas Country, and will soon be available at Club Atlas Chapalita.
Fernando Espinoza García adds that “it is a necessity for an important number of members; hybrid and electric vehicles are increasing. It is not a trend; it is a necessity and part of a culture of caring for the environment.”
He also notes that with the charging centers, members enjoy the convenience of charging their vehicles while spending time at the club, whether for recreational or sports activities.
The benefits offered to members include:
- Reduced pollutant emissions
- Lower noise levels
- A healthier environment
He also emphasized that the vision of Clubes Atlas is to be the leading brand in sustainable and ecological social sports clubs.
How Does It Work?
AKRON EV offers two types of charging:
- Semi-fast charging, available in shopping centers and sports clubs
- Ultra-fast charging, which will be installed at service stations and along highway corridors

To use the stations:
- Download the AKRON EV app
- Go to a charging center
- Access the app and select the connector number
- BYD vehicles require an adapter
- Make the payment with a credit or debit card
- Plug in the vehicle and select the charging speed
Cost:
- Fast charging (up to 6 kW): 7 pesos per kWh
- Ultra-fast charging (up to 9 kW): 8 pesos per kWh
The pricing is dynamic based on the selected charging speed.
